The present study aimed to evaluate the maturity and yield characteristics of 12 Italian native varieties during the growing seasons 2010 (2009/10) and 2011 (2010/11). The experiment was conducted at Villaggio Grando Winery (26º43'53"S; 51º30'26"W; 1300 m). The vineyard was planted in 2006, spacing 3.0 x 1.5m and trained in vertical shooting positioning trellis. The evaluated varieties were Aglianico, Ancellotta, Lambrusco, Malvasia Nera, Negro Amaro, Nero d?Avola, Primitivo, Sangiovese and Rebo (reds); and Fiano, Garganega and Vermentino (whites). It was analyzed the climatic aspects during maturation, the evolution of grape chemical composition and the yield at harvest. Mean temperature and total precipitation volume was higher in 2010 season than in 2011. On average maturity in the first season extended 63±10 days and the summing of GDD was 457±89 GDD, at subsequent season was 49±7 days and 412±50 GDD. It was found that in the first season (2010), the contents of TSS ranged from 14.7 to 22.3°Brix, pH 3.07 to 3.56; total acidity (TA) between 69.3 to 175.4 meq.L-1; total monomeric anthocyanin (TMA) 471-3037 mgL-1, total polyphenols (TP) 519-3990 mgL-1 and average yield between 0.545-3.079 kg plant-1. In the season 2011, the TSS contents were between 16 to 21.1°Brix, pH between 2.87 to 3.59; TA 103.3 to 213.2 meq L-1; TMA 330-3990 mg L- 1; TP between 0.516-2.912 mg L-1, and yield 680-2753 kg plant-1. The red varieties Ancellotta, Rebo and Sangiovese showed in both seasons appropriate grape qualitative development. The White variety Vermentino distinguished for showing good quality and high yields.
